As we roll in to the new year, many of us intend to “get back in shape” or BACK in shape. A very common New Years resolution is "lose so many pounds" or "take more steps per day" or even "join a gym and start working out". So as we start to get blasted with the “New Year, New You” saying, I want to discuss the common roadblock for many of us gym vets and some of you older newbies too.
JOINT PAIN
If you’ve been on the planet long enough, its very likely something hurts. That creaky left knee, an old sports injured shoulder, or a bum hip. I've heard, seen, and experienced all and none if it is fun. More than that, joint pain can be a huge hinderance to increasing your activity and getting back in shape. Mrs. T has seen me hobble around enough times to be able to tell you, I’ve been there. I’ve got a right knee that was injured 25 years ago delivering appliances. There’s the right shoulder that's been an off and on pain since I was ego lifting in my 20s and went too heavy on an overhead press. Then there is the hip that lets me know it's there when I get too heavy on squats. Its painful, it’s exhausting, and it just plain sucks.
2023 makes my 20th year as a PA. I've had the opportunity to work in several areas of medicine. This career has allowed me to see and learn so much as well as find out what gets my juices flowing. Wellness and orthopedics have always had a special place in my heart. They’ve always just “clicked” for me. I commonly say it’s like the way a mechanic looks at an engine and it just makes sense. These areas have just always made sense to me and kept me interested and excited.
That's why I’m very excited to announce Vigor Health and Beauty has started to do PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections for joint pain… and hair restoration!
Before Vigor became a thing, we were sitting at District Tap brainstorming what we wanted to do. It took a few pages of lists to nail the name, but the very next item on my list was PRP. I’ve had it repeatedly for my knee and hip and know first hand how powerful of a pain reliever it can be. It is the reason I am able to still go to the gym and lift like I do. I wanted to be able to share it with my patients as a means to maintain their lifestyle without joint pain slowing them down.
PRP has been studied clinically against steroid injection and wins out nearly 100% of the time in regards to pain relief and length of relief. Plus, being your own platelets taken from a simple blood draw, the possibility of having any allergy to the injection is nil… ITS YOUR OWN STUFF!
PRP has shown significant effect for certain patterns of hair loss as well. Same blood draw, same injections, just done in the scalp to encourage reactivating of follicles and new growth. While many of you may be looking at me, the bald guy, and asking how I can make these claims, I was lucky enough to get the genes to have a balding pattern not amenable to PRP. So while my hairline was winning battles, I grabbed my razor and won the war. Bald by choice is a thing.
So make an appointment for a free consultation for joint pain and/or hair restoration. I’m walking proof that PRP offers significant pain relief in joints. I have a stack of success stories to back me up. It's as close to magic as you can get for pain, and it's all from your body’s own innate healing properties.
Be Well,
Paul and Kristen Mattox
There are many studies and references in regard to PRP. Below are a few if you would like to review. If you have a particular question or interest please email us at vigorhealthandbeauty@gmail.com
